This is sad. We were discussing this in my abnormal psychology class today. My professor specifically stated something I agree with: being diagnosed with something, such as autism, is not necessarily unfortunate. She also stated that abnormality is simply heightened normality.
People need to get it through their heads: different is NOT BAD. Autism is not a "disease" simply because it makes people different in certain aspects. I HATE the abelist point of view, the stigma that gets tossed around over this, and other mental health issues. ARGH.
